Venezuela and China advance zero-tariff negotiations for 400 products

During the Shanghai Expo 2025, Venezuela's then Minister of Foreign Trade, Coromoto Godoy, held a working session with Venezuelan business representatives in which proposals were aligned to negotiate a "zero tariff" scheme for at least 400 Venezuelan products destined for the Chinese market.

The proposal envisions a partial-scope trade agreement with China, similar in nature to the agreement previously signed by Venezuela with Turkey, under a mutual-benefit framework for both economies.

At the time, the expectation was that the agreement could take effect during the first quarter of 2026. The proposal builds on other recent steps in the bilateral trade relationship, such as the phytosanitary protocol for mung bean exports signed months earlier.
